L.A. is a cultural diversed area and I wanted to emphasize that we are a community and that everybody is welcome. The walkway was suppose to represent the welcoming stepping stone for any individual that would recognize their language and follow the path. The path is translated into “Unity” in 18 different language, because walking on this path is a road to unity, which is the city of Los Angeles. I wanted to make sure that anyone can read the word “Unity” and recognize that their translated phrase is neighboring the phrase “Unity” in other languages because it creates a better relationship between other culture and ethnic groups. The color theme was based on the sky we see during sunset in Los Angeles, because it feels warm, tranquil, and safe. Any individual who belong in L.A. or wants to come to L.A. should feel safe, that they belong." -- Steven Phan
