From downtown Los Angeles to the Westside and down to the port, about a dozen iconic landmarks throughout L.A. were bathed in a sea of colors Thursday, Sept. 29, as the City of Angels celebrated LA for All Week to promote community and diversity while standing up against hate.

Structures that were lit up included L.A. City Hall, Union Station, the pylons at Los Angeles International Airport, the 6th Street Viaduct, 3rd Street Tunnel, L.A. Memorial Coliseum, USC’s Galen Center, Metro Division 13, the L.A. Zoo, Port of Los Angeles Offers Historic Warehouse No. 1, U.S. Bank Tower, The Ritz-Carlton and Hollywood Bowl.

The landmarks were lit in a mosaic of colors designed by artist Masaki Koike.

LA for All is an annual campaign put on by the L.A. Civil Rights Department.

“Since 2020, L.A. Civil Rights has worked to strengthen, promote, and fight to protect Angelenos and those who visit our city from hate and discrimination,” L.A. Civil Rights Executive Director Capri Maddox said.

“In our second year, when we launched LA for All, we were intentional about ensuring that everyone knew that hate has no home in Los Angeles, and that we were building an inclusive L.A. for everyone,” she added. “As we face rising hate crimes, marginalized communities under attack, and neighborhoods needing support we stand ready to shape a more just and equitable Los Angeles.”

This year’s festivities included Wednesday’s World Peace Day, where peace and healing centers throughout the city held peace walks, open dialogues and healing circles.

Thursday’s lighting event included a ceremony at City Hall, attended by Mayor Karen Bass and other city leaders.

The week will conclude with the Tom LaBonge Day of Service, named after the former city councilmember who died in 2021. Saturday’s event will be an opportunity for volunteers to clean up sites in North Hollywood, Pacoima, Silver Lake or Mid-City. To sign up, visit bit.ly/labongeday.
