Bowie Faye Karr began advocating for the transgender community during the academic year of 2020-2021. In the fall of 2020, Bowie became aware of growing systemic concerns regarding the treatment and inclusion of transgender students at California State University, Northridge. Thanks to Bowie's efforts, California State University, Northridge has implemented changes in how students are identified across campus services to protect the identities of current and future transgender students. In the upcoming 2024 academic year, Bowie plans to expand this work to as many campuses and universities as possible in Los Angeles County. Bowie aims to set a precedent that will make Los Angeles the leading city in providing services to transgender College students.
