Brooke Helmick serves as a Policy Fellow and Disability Rights Advocate for the Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department.  

She began working with LA Civil Rights through the UCLA Chancellor’s Leadership, Innovation, Networking & Knowledge (LINK) Cohort. Having graduated in June 2021 with a B.A. in Gender Studies and double minors in Theatre and Global Studies, her research primarily focused on the climate crisis/environmental migration, structural power dynamics, and the utilization of different types of labor in the modern global economy. 

She recently began working towards her M.A. at Columbia University under the Institute for the Study of Human Rights where she concentrates her studies on the relationship between human rights and U.S. Immigration Policy.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading, writing, and performing as well as engaging in the arts as a method for healing, transformation, and social change.
