Tammy Ortuno has served as the South LA Transit Empowerment Zone (SLATE-Z) Program Manager for the Office of Mayor Garcetti where she collaborated with SLATE-Z, community-based partners and businesses to create programs, coordinate city services and resources for the South LA community. While working as the SLATE-Z Program Manager she created Careers by Design LA, a 4-unit college curriculum at LA Trade Tech and jobs pipeline for entry level office jobs in the architecture, engineering and construction industries also included in LA’s Green New Deal. Tammy has also served in the LA Mayor’s Office of Budget and Innovation where she established the A Bridge Home initiative and the Unified Homelessness Response Center (UHRC) through CENTCOM.
Prior to starting her career at the Mayor’s Office, Tammy worked at Children’s Hospital of Orange County as an inpatient pharmacy technician where she managed the Drug Diversion Program and improved patient safety through data analysis, process improvement and collaboration with physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other medical professionals. Tammy is currently an Education Rights Holder for the Children’s Law Center of California. She graduated from UCLA with a Master of Social Welfare Degree and is a recipient of the 2016 David Bohnett Mayoral Leadership Fellowship.
